Homemade Crunch Bars
Better than store-bought! These homemade crunch bars are incredibly easy to make, require just 3-5 ingredients, and deliver that perfect, nostalgic combination of creamy chocolate and crisp, airy rice.
Classic 3-Ingredient Crunch Bars
Yield: 12-16 bars
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Set Time: 1 hour
Ingredients
· 3 cups (180g) crispy rice cereal (like Rice Krispies)
· 2 cups (340g) high-quality semi-sweet or milk chocolate chips
· ½ cup (85g) creamy peanut butter (optional, but recommended for flavor and stability)
Instructions
- Prepare Pan: Line an 8×8 inch (20×20 cm) baking pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang on two sides for easy removal. Lightly grease the paper.
- Melt Chocolate: In a large, microwave-safe bowl, combine chocolate chips and peanut butter (if using). Microwave in 30-second bursts, stirring well between each, until completely smooth and melted. (Alternatively, use a double boiler.)
- Add Cereal: Gently fold the crispy rice cereal into the melted chocolate mixture until every piece is evenly coated.
- Press & Set: Immediately transfer the mixture to the prepared pan. Press down firmly and evenly with the back of a spoon or a piece of parchment paper.
- Chill: Refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or until completely firm.
- Slice: Use the parchment overhang to lift the slab from the pan. Place on a cutting board and cut into bars with a sharp knife.

Expert Tips for Perfect Bars
- Press Firmly: This is the #1 tip to prevent crumbly bars. Apply even, firm pressure to compact the mixture.
- Chill Completely: Don’t rush the setting time. A firm chill ensures clean slices.
- Knife Hack: For super clean cuts, run your knife under hot water and wipe it dry before each slice.
- Quality Chocolate: The flavor depends on it. A good brand of chocolate chips or chopped baking chocolate makes all the difference.
- Keep Crispy: Store bars in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks. They can become soft at room temperature.
Enjoy your homemade, perfectly crispy, chocolatey crunch bars! They make fantastic lunchbox treats, after-school snacks, or simple homemade gifts.
